Jorge Simão Évora, Portugal, 1980

O percurso académico de Jorge Simão passa pelo Mestrado em Artes Visuais e Intermédia, variante Bidimensional, pela Universidade de Évora, e, atualmente, pelo Doutoramento em Educação Artística, desenvolvido entre as Universidades de Lisboa e do Porto.

Iniciou o seu percurso sobretudo pelo desenho e pela pintura, explorando progressivamente outras linguagens, como a instalação e a performance.

Mais recentemente, o seu trabalho tem-se aproximado da terra e das questões da memória e do território, com uma atenção particular ao Alentejo e às relações entre as pessoas, a cultura e os lugares.

Desde 2003, tem vindo a desenvolver e a apresentar o seu trabalho artístico em exposições individuais e coletivas. 

Destacamos na Trema a mostra individual Mason & Barry, uma série de pinturas resultado do contato do autor com a exploração mineira de São Domingo, um lugar agreste, imenso e desabitado na região do Alentejo.

Jorge Simão’s academic career includes a Master’s degree in Visual and Intermedia Arts, specialising in Two-Dimensional Art, from the University of Évora, and he is currently undertaking a PhD in Art Education, jointly supervised by the Universities of Lisbon and Porto.

He began his career primarily through drawing and painting, gradually exploring other art forms, such as installation and performance.

More recently, his work has focused on the land and on issues of memory and territory, with a particular focus on the Alentejo and the relationships between people, culture and places.

Since 2003, she has been developing and presenting her artistic work in solo and group exhibitions. 

Of particular note at Trema is the solo exhibition ‘Mason & Barry’, a series of paintings resulting from the artist’s encounter with the São Domingo mining site, a rugged, vast and uninhabited place in the Alentejo region.
